Storm Update - Thursday Evening - Sep 16th

Spoke to a couple of friends and neighbors today and this is what we know. There was a mandatory curfew until 2:00PM today in Panama City. If you were out driving before that time you were going to get arrested. We also found out at about 8:00PM tonight we got electricity/power back in our neighborhood! Yeah! It was out for less than 24 hours and that is very good news. Just to make sure, Kathy called our house and got our answering machine. Our friends also said that not much is open at this time just a couple of mini-marts and a Waffle House. Waffle Houses are kinda like cock roaches, you could set off a nuclear bomb and they both would survive. Maybe it’s the cock roaches at the Waffle Houses that keeps them standing? Hmmm.

Also, one of our friends drove by our house and said that other than all the debris (which everyone has) in our yard there was no noticeable damage to our house. Yeah Again! They did say that our neighbor behind us lost a tree and it may be in our yard or knocked down our privacy fence, they weren’t sure. One of other friends is going to go to our house tomorrow and walk around the house and let us know how it looks. But so far that is good news. We have no word how things are at my parent’s house. If the power remains on, we plan on returning to Panama City on Saturday morning. We’ll have plenty to cleanup once we get home. Between our house and my parents I believe we will be busy for the remainder of the weekend. Haven’t really heard much new about how things are in Panama City and have really stayed away from the TV all day.

We didn’t do much today. Went to the mall (again) and then to dinner tonight which was exceptional. Didn’t exert ourselves too much, we’re saving ourselves for when we get home. We’re glad we left before the storm hit and have no regrets that we did. We’re actually having a good time just hanging out with my parents and doing a whole bunch of nothing. We’ll be busy again soon enough.

Not much else, except we appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers. They mean a lot to us. We ask that you continue to do remember us and our friends and neighbors in Panama City. Many of them have a long road in front of them.

We’ll keep you updated.

Thanx for the good (sort-of) news. Hope your trip home isn't too bad. Weather Channel said the traffic heading back into the Panhandle is expected to be pretty bad today. Food in your freezer should be okay if elec was only off a day and nobody was opening it. I'm really glad you evacuated, too. REALLY, REALLY GLAD!!! Hope Jeanne and Karl decide to go visit someone else for a change. (-: Keith didn't fly out Thursday. His flight to Atlanta wasn't cancelled or delayed but he decided to wait til Friday anyway 'cause tornado warnings were in effect for Atlanta when he was s'posed to leave. Of course, probably the prodding of his very nervous mom might have helped him make the decision. Sometimes, that's a good thing. He found out later in the day that his flight from Atlanta to New Orleans was cancelled!!! So he would have spent the night in the airport. Friday he flew out to Atlanta then Houston (where Blake picked him up) and all was fine. Now I have my own cleanup to do. As you can imagine, Keith's bedroom and the computer room look like we had our own hurricane!!! I've filled 2 bags of trash already. Hope I didn't toss anything important, but if I did, oh well...he should have kept it safe from Momma's hands. (-: LOL GLDD
